MmITS AGM featuring @OrkneyLibrary

by Louise Morrison

A few weeks ago the 9th MmITS AGM took place in Glasgow University Library and we were very excited to present Stewart Bain, the face behind the famous @OrkneyLibrary Twitter feed as our post-AGM speaker!

New committee appointments

Anne Louise Anglim, MmITS Chairperson and Paulette Hill, MmITS Treasurer were pleased to welcome four new committee members: Leigh Bunton, Shayna Conn, Claire Bell and me, Louise Morrison.

The new committee will meet soon to discuss future plans for the MmITS group. We have lots of ideas for upcoming activities so keep an eye on our Twitter feed to find out more!

Stewart’s talk

Once the official AGM business was finished, we settled down to enjoy Stewart’s entertaining presentation. Stewart talked us through Orkney Library’s social media journey, from their initial dabbling with Twitter (because 140 characters couldn’t involve too much work could it?) right through to their current enviable position with over 5,000 Twitter followers from all around the world, an established Facebook presence, a blog and a successful online book group.

I think we were all inspired by the creativity shown by Stewart and his colleagues in their social media activities and came away from the talk with lots of ideas we could apply to our own organisations or groups.

To find out more about the key themes of Stewart’s talk, Claire Bell has written a comprehensive summary, which is available on our website.

Two audience members were also inspired to write the following blog posts about the event:
